The Older Person Project

Overarching Aim

• Expand general knowledge and practical options for practices to support older patients (over
  65) in primary dental care
• The toolkit focus is to support dental care provision for all older people not just those in care
  homes
• Understand that patient focus on the social impact of having poor oral health, such as being
  unable to speak or socialise normally.

Overarching Objectives

• Support best practice in topic sections
• Disseminate that information and share resources already available
• Identifying possible practical support and solution to common problems
• Tangible benefits to practitioners CPD and access to toolkit
• Discuss prevention strategies and review treatment options for the ageing population
• Identify solutions in managing patient with medical co-morbidity and capacity problems

The older person project toolkit is hoped to be a resource for dental teams to support care of all
older people in primary dental care, with practical information and resources that have been found
to be useful by practitioners working in primary care.
