Surrey (DERS)

Before making a referral please check carefully the referral guidelines to ensure that you are referring to the most appropriate service. Check the address of the patient’s GP as you may need to refer outside Surrey.

All dental pathways, orthodontics, dental alveolar, oral medicine, suspected cancer, paediatric and special care (the Community Dental Service) are now referred via DERS.  This replaces all previous referral guidance issued under clause 261/260 of your General Dental Services Contract/Personal Dental Services Agreement. Any paper referrals for patients registered with a Kent, Surrey or Sussex GP will be returned which will delay patients accessing care.

To help in your referral you may need an OPG radiograph. You can make use of the buddy scheme to arrange this.

Outside Surrey

Before making a referral please check carefully the referral guidelines to ensure that you are referring to the most appropriate service.

Check the address of the patients GP, if it is outside Surrey then you may need to refer via a different pathway and to a different provider as healthcare services are commissioned by different groups, usually depending on location and local agreement.

In the past we have made available downloadable forms to help in referring a patient who’s GP is outside Surrey. As is so often the case these forms are updated or modified and sometimes rejected by the provider.

We therefore advise you type in the need, for example ‘oral surgery referral’ and the area say ‘Hampshire’ to a search engine and click on the link that most suits.
